The Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Mr. Aziz Abdukhakimov visited HNEE with his delegation and together with representatives of BMUV and GIZ on June 23, 2023. There were introductory presentations by Prof. Pfriem and Prof. Welp on the HNEE and its history, relevant faculties, case studies of the ongoing projects in Central Asia. The Ministry presented its plans for the "Central Asian University for the Study of Environment and Climate Change" - Green University in Uzbekistan, which was newly founded on May 31, 2023.
Through this profile of this new university, there are many points of contact for possible further cooperation in teaching and research. Dr. Ferreira further introduced the Biosphere Reserves Institute and Mr. Murzakhanov from Michael Succow Foundation gave an input on the experience of the foundation in working with Biosphere Reserves in Uzbekistan. The last activity was the campus tour with Prof. Spathelf, where he covered the topics of forest management in the area of Brandenburg and Germany. Afterwards, the delegation continued their trip to the Biosphere Reserve Schorfheide-Chorin. Both sides confirmed their intention to expand the cooperation.
